Help support Indigenous Literacy today

Today is Indigenous Literacy Day, the annual campaign of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The Foundation is dedicated to bringing culturally appropriate books and literacy resources to Indigenous children between 0 and 11 years living in some of the most remote communities in Australia.

The Foundation aims to raise literacy levels and improve the lives and opportunities of Indigenous Australians living in remote and isolated regions.

On Indigenous Literacy Day, participating book publishers and booksellers donate at least 5 per cent of their takings, so today’s the day to buy a book! It doesn’t matter whether you buy a book online or in a bricks-and-mortar store, your purchase will directly assist some of Australia’s most disadvantaged young people.

I’m delighted to be helping the Foundation find sources of support in the corporate and philanthropic communities.

Here’s a short informative video about what the Foundation does:

Virginia was incredibly helpful with conducting a deep dive researching the top agents for my memoir. I had no idea where to begin with this process. Virginia provided an excellent summary sheet and description chart for each agent with details for submission requirements. I am thankful for Virginia’s experience coaching me through this cumbersome process. Without her help I would still be swimming through the vast ocean of agents. Thankfully now I have a very specific list for best chance to get a read. - 4/09/2025

Thank you again Virginia for your very thoughtful and concise video, which I have watched a number of times and now realise how difficult it is to get the query letter right, and how precise you must be in hooking the agent/publisher's interest. I totally agree with everything you have said, and very much appreciate your expertise in this area, as without it, I wouldn't stand a chance! I now feel 100% more confident that I do stand a chance to be read, and that feels good! Thank you for your invaluable support. Winifred Lomax - 2/09/2025
