If you’re an Australian writer who missed the deadline for the latest round of Australia Council Literature Grants, here are three due at the end of May that might interest you:

Writers Victoria is offering three emerging writers and three mid-career writers the use of a Glenfern writers’ studio for a period of three months through the generous support of the Readings Foundation and the Grace Marion Wilson Trust.

The 2012 Readings Fellowship is for a Mid-Career Writer – meaning a writer who has a publication background in prose, poetry or works written for performance. The 2012 Grace Marion Wilson Fellowship is for an Emerging Writer – meaning a writer working on his or her first or second work.

Deadline is 5.00 pm Thursday 31 May. Application forms here.

Seriously published writers only need apply for the Australian Book Review Patron’s Fellowship. The $5,000 fellowship is sponsored byABR’s patrons and will be awarded for either ‘a profile of a major media/cultural figure’ or ‘a discursive essay with media/cultural themes’. Any Australian writer who has ‘a significant publication record [in] books, creative writing, essays or journalism’ has until 31 May to apply.

Note: You only need submit a detailed proposal, not the finished work, for consideration for the Fellowship. They want “a succinct but comprehensive proposal, plus a CV of no more than two pages.” Ideally you should contact the editor first about your topic (editor@australianbookreview.com.au).

Also at ABR is the Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize, which offers generous awards for short fiction of between 2,000 and 5,000 words. Have you got a piece you’ve been meaning to finish? Dust it off, scrub it up and send it off, though it’s $18 to submit your story ($14 for subscribers). Gotta be in it, and all that.
